New updater reportedly leaves some iPods damaged

A new updater released by Apple is deleting music files and leaving devices unmountable, according to a report on The iPod Observer. The update, intended as a bug fix, also introduced a new feature for 5th Generation iPods and iPod nanos that let users set a maximum volume and let parents set and lock the volume on their children's iPods.
The updater was still available on Apple's website as of this posting, but RandomMaccess obviously recommends against installing it until more is known about the potential problems.
